Rhinelander-area man facing 10 child porn charges
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
A 34-year-old Rhinelander-area man recently arrested and charged with 10 felony counts of possessing child pornography remains in the Oneida County Jail.
Each charge against Daniel E. Schellinger carries a maximum possible penalty of 15 years of initial confinement in prison, plus 10 years of extended supervision, and a $100,000 fine. Schellinger, whose bond has been set at $5,000 cash, is scheduled back in Oneida County Circuit Court on June 6 for an adjourned initial appearance.
Schellinger is accused of having 10 images of child pornography on his cell phone.
According to the court complaint, Schellinger was contacted May 5 in Minocqua by special agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation regarding an ongoing investigation into the possession of child pornography after law enforcement had obtained a search warrant.
Court records state Schellinger admitted viewing pornography on his cell phone and “often downloading it in bulk” from various websites. He also allegedly stated having seen child pornography in the images he has downloaded and that he views child pornography because it is “something new.”
A report by special agent Robert W. Glaman contained in court records goes into explicit detail about the images of child pornography Schellinger is accused of possessing on his cell phone.
