STAR JOURNAL REPORT

Taylor Wissbroecker, a 2013 Rhinelander High School graduate who will be entering her senior season this fall on the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s volleyball team, has been named UMD’s 2016-17 recipient of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Butch Raymond Scholarship.

The $5,000 scholarship, sponsored by Sanford Health and given each year to 16 student-athletes – one recipient at each of the NSIC member institutions – is in recognition of Butch Raymond, the NSIC commissioner from 2004 to 2014.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the recipient must be a senior academically, have a GPA of 3.20 or higher, be participating in intercollegiate athletics and plan to work in a health-related field or attend graduate school in a health-related field. Wissbroecker is majoring in biology.

Last season, Wissbroecker, an outside hitter, earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5. She averaged a career-best 2.73 kills and 2.55 digs per game on the season. She also was a finalist for UMD’s Shjon Podein Community Service Award this past school year.
