RHS girls 4X800, Eva O’Melia 1st at Merrill; Susanna Roberts 3rd in 100

The Rhinelander High School girls track and field team recorded two first-place finishes at Friday’s Otto Bacher Invitational at Merrill.
In the 4X800-meter relay, the Hodags’ Payton Hartman, Gracie Quinn, Alayna Franson and Eva O’Melia won in 10 minutes, 28.42 seconds. They finished almost 12 seconds ahead of their nearest competitor, the relay team from Lakeland Union High School.
O’Melia also came in first individually by winning the 800 run (2:26.26), 1.26 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Marshfield’s Alexa Aumann.
RHS’s girls recorded another top-three individual finish with Susanna Roberts placing third in the 100 dash (13.51), 37-hundredths of a second off the winning time of Wausau East’s Sarah Heinrich.
Roberts, Ellen Padgett, Raven Sturtevant, and Haley Klaver ended up seventh in the 4X100 relay (55.07). Roberts, Ericka Jorgenson, Mattia Beske and Carly Seidl placed eighth in the 4X200 relay (2:05.4). Padgett added an eighth-place finish in the 200 dash (34.0).
The Hodag girls ended up ninth out of the 12 teams with 33 points. The Thunderbirds had the top score of 85, followed by Marshfield (80), Medford (67), Wausau East (62.5) and Merrill (52) rounding out the top five.
RHS BOYS 8TH
The Hodag boys picked up 21 points and ended up in eighth place. LUHS topped the 11 boys teams at 163.5, followed by Merrill (108.5), Medford (92), Wausau East (81) and Mosinee (45) in the top five.
The best individual finish among RHS’s boys came from Eric Tracy placing fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.00). Max Brown added a fifth-place finish in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) with Anthony Kowalski sixth in the 400 dash (55.56) and eighth-place finishes coming from Bridger Flory in the 1600 run (5:05.04) and Rueben Guzik in the 300 hurdles (46.18).
The RHS boys scored points in the relays from: Alec Bess, Colton Krueger, Josh Francisco and Alec Kurtz finishing sixth in the 4X100 (47.82); Flory, Quinn Werner, Sam Olson and Anthony Gaudioso placing seventh in the 4X800 (10:11.23); and Bess, Kurtz, Tyler Krogh and Kyle Wertel coming in eighth in the 4X200 (1:42.63).
