Food Pantry announces second annual pumpkin growing contest
The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry is looking for anyone interested in trying their hand at growing a large pumpkin. The second annual pumpkin growing contest will be held, ending at the Harvest Hoedown event scheduled for Saturday, October 1. This annual fall celebration benefits the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing.
Pumpkin growing awards will be presented for two groups, youth (age 16 and under) and adults, and based on a combination of weight, circumference and ripeness, as determined by the judges.
Receive free early ripening Autumn Gold Hybrid seeds when registering (which must be used for this contest) along with a copy of the rules and tips on growing pumpkins .
Registration is available at Forth Floral, Hanson’s Garden Village, CCL Gardens or at the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (Monday through Fridays, from 9 am to noon).
