Edward “Mike” A. Mikkelson, age 92, of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Friendly Village Nursing and Rehab.  He was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Virginia, Minn., to Edward T. and Clara (Heisner) Mikkelson.

Mike served in the Army during World War II.  On Aug. 15, 1953, he married the former Donna May Miller in Rhinelander.  He was part of the construction crew that built the original Daniel’s Packaging plant and was offered a job with the company upon the project’s completion.  He continued with the company, later to be known as Printpack, for 42 years until his retirement in 1989.  He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Annett (Steve Sr.) Lawrence of Rhinelander; 17 grandchildren, including Steve Lawrence II; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Punches of Rhinelander; seven nieces; and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank Rhoades; his wife, Donna May on Jan. 15, 2000; a sister, Irene Kleinshmidt; and a brother, John Rhoades.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church with Revs. Matthew Schoell and Richard Krahn officiating.  Visitation with the family will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Military honors will follow the service.  (Carlson Funeral Home)
