Obituary: Carl D. Lassig
Carl D. Lassig, age 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 13, 2016. He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in New Underwood, S.D., and at just a few months old moved back with his parents, Carl and Kathryn Lassig, to the Rhinelander area. He lived on a farm in the Town of Pelican for 74 years, except during his service in the Army, from 1953 to 1955. Carl graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1947 and farmed until enlisting. His Army service included a stint in Germany as a combat engineer. He returned to the farm and on May 4, 1957, he married Jean Anderson at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Three Lakes. He farmed with his parents in Pelican Township, where he lived for the rest of his life. Carl sold his dairy cattle in 1985 and farmed crops after that. He served on the Oneida County Farm Service Agency and soil conservation boards for many years. As a young man, he loved skiing and playing baseball. He snowmobiled for years and enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean Lassig; brother Bruce Lassig (Annette) of Waukesha; daughter Julie Lassig (Ralph) of Doylestown, Penn.; sons Steve (Bridget) of Belmont, Mich., and Craig (Lisa) of Minneapolis; and grandchildren Maddie, Evy, Emma, Carl, Donovan and Sean; Jean’s siblings; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks for the love and help from Barb, Jack and Lynne, and Sue, as well as the nurses from Ministry Hospice Services, especially Ashley. A time of remembrance for Carl will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Carlson Funeral Home, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Visitation with the family will take place from 2 p.m. until the time of remembrance on Sunday. Condolences for the family may be directed at carlsonfh.com. (Carlson Funeral Home)
