Marion J. Shay, age 74, of Rhinelander, died March 10, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. She was born Sept. 27, 1941 in Rhinelander to Samuel and Laura (Vint) Cooper. She attended schools in Rhinelander and then went to work as a certified nursing assistant for 34 years. She worked with disabled adults her entire career and they often referred to her as the caregiver from heaven. She married Kenneth Shay and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1989. Marion enjoyed gardening, taking pictures, the Hodag Country Fest, and most of all, any time spent with her family. She loved every moment she got to spend with kids and grandchildren. Marion is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (George) Kellogg, Dawn (Allen) Gerdes and Shelly (Greg) Finger; her grandchildren, Amber and Florence Kellogg, and Tessa (Rob) Szmania; her great-grandchild, Clara Kellogg; her five sisters, Helen Larson, Henrietta Walker, Frances Steinhart, Louella Hawley and Geraldine Cantrall; her four brothers, Victor (Joy) Cooper, Clarence (Sue) Cooper, Keith (Sharon) Cooper and Gerald Cooper; sisters-in-law Betty and Dee Cooper; nieces and nephews; other family and many friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wallace and Paul Cooper. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at Carlson Funeral Home with Pastors Dustin Black and Julie Wilcox officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until just prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Clifford Finnish Cemetery. (Carlson Funeral Home)
