Ellen May Amelse, age 96, of Rhinelander, died Thursday, March 10, 2016. She was born March 9, 1920, in Rhinelander to Paul E. and Edna (Bunker) Larson. She married Nickolas Amelse on July 5, 1941, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Harrison. Ellen had been employed with the Patterson Laundry and Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Merrill. The couple lived in Bundy until 1987, when they moved to Rhinelander. Ellen was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church/Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhinelander. She enjoyed needlepoint, cloth painting and other crafts. Ellen also enjoyed playing cards, especially Uno and Phase Ten. But most of all, she loved her family and cherished spending every moment that she could with them. She is survived by her grandchildren, Theresa Lassig and Theodore O. Lassig III; great-grandchildren, Theodore D. (Natalie) Lassig, Nickolas Hunter, Kelsey Hunter and Chase Lassig; one great-great-granddaughter, Audrina Lassig; and a sister, Joyce VanStrydonk. Ellen is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nickolas, in 1989; a daughter, Betty Lassig in 1995; a son-in-law, Theodore O. Lassig Jr. in 1985; and her siblings, Paulus, Eugene, Eva, Edla, Nettie, Cecelia, Ruth, Robert and Edward. The visitation for Ellen will be held Sunday, March 13, from 4 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held Monday, March 14, at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service. The parish prayer service and the funeral service will be conducted by Dn. Dan Towle. Interment will take place at the Harrison Cemetery. (Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home)
