An elderly woman was reportedly briefly held at knife point and nearly robbed Tuesday morning as she returned to her car in the parking lot of Trig’s grocery store in Rhinelander.

According to the victim, she had concluded her shopping and after returning her shopping cart, was approached from behind. Someone put a knife to her throat and ordered her into her vehicle. The suspect, described as a black male in his early 20s,  approximately 5’4″ to 5’6″ and wearing dark clothing entered the passenger side door.

When instructed to drive, the woman ran from her car and fled toward the store yelling for help.

The suspect left the area prior to officers’ arrival.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time as the investigation is continuing and officers are still trying to gather information.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:

  • Black male
  • Early 20s
  • 5’4″ to 5’6″ in height
  • Wearing dark clothing
  • Thin build

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact the Rhinelander Police Department at 715-365-5300.
