Rhinelander running water credit ends

Residents who have been running water to prevent freezing can turn off the faucet. The City of Rhinelander Water Utility has observed that frost has now released from ground surfaces in the service area, therefore the running water credit for utility customers should now come to an end for the 2016 winter season.  Based on the seasonal warming trend being observed in early March, it will no longer be necessary to run water to prevent freezing in the public water system.

Running water credit will not be allowed for water supplies metered after Mar. 11, 2016. Whereas the city has issued approval to run water to specific customers again this year, the approved customer activity will be charged for water and sewer use in relation to the average uses metered in our system normally during the designated time period for this activity.

It appears the running water credit system has successfully minimized the freezing that can occur in the public water system and reduced our overall operational costs.  The city of Rhinelander appreciates the conservation of water used by the utility customers in order to achieve a goal of frost‐free operations
