The polls are now open at Rouman Cinema, and voters can select their favorite CANtastik structures. The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry is once again sponsoring the CANtastik competition, which challenges groups to create structures made from canned food items. This year’s theme is “Drive Out Hunger.” Six teams assembled their CANtastic creations Feb. 27. The structures will be on display in the Rouman Cinema lobby until Saturday, March 12th. At that point they will be disassembled and all the cans and boxes of food used to create them, and vote for them, will then be donated to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry for distribution to area families in need.

The public is invited to the awards ceremony Mar. 12, where trophies will be presented for Most Cans Used, Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice. Voting is open until Mar. 12 and votes can be cast between 4-8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. weekends. Everyone is encouraged to vote by bringing cans of food and placing them in the designated bin in front of their favorite structure(s). One can equals one vote.

In 2015 the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry distributed 575,988 pounds of food to needy households, and provided an additional 20,726 pound of food to children through the Weekend Food for Kids program. For more information call 715-369-7237.
