OBITUARY: WALTER C. “SONNY” HUVEN
Walter C. “Sonny” Huven, age 84, died Feb. 24, 2016. He was born April 26, 1931, to Walter and Florence (Bessa) Huven in a tarpaper shack south of Monico. He attended Maple Ridge Elementary School, Monico Grade School and Elcho High School, and was a 1949 graduate of Three Lakes High School. After graduating from high school, Walter began working to help support the family. Other than the two years he spent in the Army, he lived his entire life in Monico. He was employed with Oneida County for 10 years. Sonny mostly worked in the woods as a logger until his early retirement in his 40s due to health concerns. On Oct. 18, 1958, he married the love of his life, Doris Johnson, in Minnesota. Walter enjoyed riding his four-wheeler. He also enjoyed reading, especially Louis L’Amour westerns. But most of all, Walter enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his great storytelling and his “Sonnyisms.” He is survived by his wife; his children, Pauline of Monico, Nate (Desiree) of Pleasant View, Utah, Russell (Shari) of Appleton and Michael (Jodi) of Monico; a sister, Grace Ort of Sun City West, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Diane Huven of Moorcraft, Wyo.; a brother-in-law, Bill (Karen) Johnson of Monico; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; a brother, Bob; a son, Wayne; a brother-in-law, Dan Ort; and a granddaughter, Elisha VerHeyden. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 5, at Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. memorial service. Fr. Randy Knauf will officiate. Military honors will immediately follow the memorial service. Memorial contributions in honor of Sonny may be given to the family. (Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home)
