Russell A. Johnson, age 58, of Rhinelander, died January 1, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. Russ was born July 29, 1957 in Milwaukee to Richard and Diane (Rhyner) Johnson. His family moved to Rhinelander where Russ then graduated from RHS in 1975. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Cheryl Buesching on July 10, 1976.

Russ was a dedicated successful businessman in the community. Russ, along with his father, wife and son, owned and operated Dick Johnson, Inc. He was trusted by many throughout his 44 years in business. He also devoted himself to local area sports, helping coach many years of youth basketball and baseball. He loved the outdoors, snowmobiling, golfing, basketball, traveling and being actively involved with his grandkids.

Russ will be remembered as a wonderful husband of 39 years, generous father of three and grandpa of four, all who loved him dearly. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Russ is survived by his wife Cheryl, his two sons Scott (Jessica) Johnson and Curt Johnson; his daughter Brooke Johnson; his grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Logan and Lily; his father Richard Johnson; sister Gail (Eric) Bowman; sister-in-law Debbie Johnson; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Diane, his brother Rick and his very close friend Dan Marlatt.

Visitation for Russ will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. There will be a moment of reflection around 6 p.m. with Russ’s family and friends. You may leave private condolences for the Johnson family at www.carlsonfh.com. A memorial is being established in Russ’s name and anyone wishing to do so may direct those gifts to his family. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the Johnson family.
