Obituary: Nancy A. Stoxen
Nancy A. Stoxen , age 90, died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Country Terrace. Nancy was born in International Falls, Minnesota on August 4, 1925 the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Scriver) Headsten. She was a 1943 graduate of Falls High School. Upon graduation, Nancy attended North Dakota State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1947. Nancy met who would become her husband Leland Stoxen at college and they were married on June 24, 1947 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in International Falls, MN. They lived in Taylor and Bismark North Dakota, Bayfield, Wisconsin, Iron Mountain, Michigan and Rhinelander. Nancy was employed as a Pharmacist in Bismark, N.D. When the family moved to Rhinelander, Nancy remained at home to raise her children. In 1968 she returned to her career as a Relief Pharmacist and in 1977 she opened her own pharmacy, Stoxen Pharmacy, in Tomahawk, which she operated until 2002 when she retired. During the time she owned the pharmacy in Tomahawk, she was active in the community and received an award for her service. Nancy was an active member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce, Nicolet Choraliers, Bridge Club, Bon Temps Dance Club, Candle Lighters Dance Club, a Women’s Investment Group, past President of the AFS, Rhinelander Country Club, Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, where she was a board member. Nancy and Leland participated in People to People, an ambassadorship that allowed them to travel to China. Nancy, as a mother, enjoyed being involved with her children’s activities. She was active in the Camp Fire Girls as well as assisting with managing the organization of Camp Birchrock. She enjoyed swimming, pontoon rides, canoeing, fishing, golfing, traveling, and living on Lake Thompson. She will be remembered for being an independent woman with a big heart. But most of all she will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nancy is survived by her children; Corky (Margie) Stoxen of Rhinelander, Mary (Gary) McFarlane of Eau Claire, WI, Susan (Jim) Hasz of Appleton, WI and Carrie (Billy) McKnight of Menomonie, WI, foreign exchange son; Marvin (Elizabeth) Raufi of Silverspring, MD, nine grandchildren; Matt (Sarah) Stoxen of Belgrade, MT, Jeff (Eve) Stoxen of Rhinelander, Jesse (Jamie) McFarlane of Sheboygan, WI, Meg (Joe) Schauer of Golden Valley, MN, Kayla Hasz of Phoenix, AZ, Chelsea (Dionte) Tyler of Phoenix, AZ, Noah Stoxen-Roelke, Ryan Stoxen-Roelke and Will McKnight of Menomonie, Wisconsin. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; Bryan and Anna Stoxen, Aidan and Linnea McFarlane and Stoxen Schauer. She is further survived by one sister; Mary Deming of Hinckley, MN, and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland Stoxen, one brother; Don (Margaret) Headsten and one brother-in-law; Ken Deming. The visitation for Nancy will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church located at 39 S. Pelham Street from 10:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Service of Thanksgiving of the life of Nancy Stoxen. The service will be conducted by Pastor Carol Amadio. Interment will take place at Northland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Nancy will be given to those persuing a career in Pharmaceutical Education.
