Area children receive free instruction and create art projects through TGI ArtFridays, a program co-sponsored by Rhinelander ArtStart and Old School Arts and Learning Center.

Rhinelander ArtStart and Old School Arts and Learning Center will offer “TGI ArtFridays” with fall and winter art classes for kids beginning Friday, October 9. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Children age 8 to 13 years may attend any or all of the classes at no charge. Signed permission forms are required.

Participants will create art projects inspired by fall and winter ArtStart exhibitions, and instruction will be provided by local artists. Classes include instruction in color collage, altered art, clay, zendoodle, and other art forms.

“As a mother and art lover, I am so excited that the kids living in and around Rhinelander will have this great opportunity to work with artists and connect the work they see on the gallery wall to their own creations,” ArtStart Development Director Melinda Childs said. “Not only will the classes help them stretch their imaginations and express themselves, but art helps kids practice creative problem-solving skills which will be useful their whole lives academically, socially and professionally.”

Fall session classes will be held at ArtStart from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Fridays, October 9, 16 and 23 with Open Studio at the Old School Arts and Learning Center Tuesdays, October 13, 20 and 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Students may work on their projects with direction from staff during the open studio periods. Winter classes will begin Friday, November 6.
