Obituary: Winifred M. King
Winifred M. King, 97, of Rhinelander, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born on July 28, 1918 in Sugar Camp on her grandparents homestead, the daughter of Fred and Faye (Hibbard) Hunter. Winifred was a 1936 graduate of Rhinelander High School. She was a graduate of Oneida County Normal School and then taught for two years in a one room school house in Sugar Camp. Winifred was united in marriage to Leon King on June 17, 1939 at St. Kunegunda Catholic Church in Sugar Camp. The couple made their home in Rhinelander where Winifred began her teaching career for the next twenty five years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Winifred had been a Catechism Teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, family picnics and Sunday meals at grandma Hunter’s home. But most of all, Winifred loved her family and took great pride in all of their accomplishments. She will be dearly missed by her children, Janice Hamilton of Rhinelander and Thomas (Suzanne) King of New London; five grandchildren, Chad (Nicole) Hamilton of Neenah, Gary (Theresa) Hamilton of Sugar Camp, Kent King of Oconto Falls, WI, Laura (Aaron) Lee of Two Rivers, Lisa (Eric) Wahlfeld of Greenville, nine great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law; Ruth Kliss of Sugar Camp. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Leon King, and by eight siblings. The visitation for Winifred will be held this Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, (St. Mary’s site) with Rev.
