Obituary: Beulah Mildred Herrick
Beulah Mildred Herrick, 96, of Rhinelander, died on Monday, August 3, 2015. She was born July 28, 1919 to August and Alma Frank. She grew up in Rhinelander as the youngest of three children. Beulah graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1937 and was subsequently employed by Ehlke Studios, Dr. Gager’s Medical Practice, Rhinelander Paper Company, US Navy Great Lakes Naval Station, the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce and managed the Rhinelander Credit Bureau, where she retired in 1981. She married the late William E. Herrick in 1941 in Rhinelander where they raised six children.
Beulah enjoyed volunteering in the community and earned many awards for doing so. She was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for volunteer service in the aging process, chosen “favorite senior” at the Oneida Senior Center for 1985. She served as secretary for the Oneida Senior Center Advisory Council from 1982-2005. She received numerous awards for generous volunteer service at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Logging Museum, the American Association of Retired Persons Rhinelander area AARP Chapter #1076 and recognized as an Eldercare volunteer for her commitment to improving the lives of Wisconsin’s citizens through generous volunteer service by Governor Thompson and the Commission on Aging.
She was a woman of many talents and many passions. She loved music and played the organ, piano, cello and violin. She loved being a part of Stunt Night when younger and the Racketeers band as a Senior. She shared time, talents and love with the residents of Petersen Health Care, often singing and dancing for them. She also had a passion for writing. She started out in the Senior Creative Writing class and began writing numerous stories and poems about her life and others.
Those who met Beulah will remember her smile, along with her sweetness and kindness to others– and outfits that had to match! She always had a little “spunk” to her! She always thought of others before herself and never wanted to put others out. She has left this world a better place.
Beulah is survived by her sons, Peter (Robin) of Falls Church, VA; David (Mary) of Loveland, Colorado, John (Wendy)of Rhinelander; and daughters Mary of Minocqua; Barbara (Robert) Peeters of DePere; Ann (James) Rogers of Lakeville, MN.
