A preliminary hearing for Ashlee Martinson, the 17- year old defendant who stands accused of two counts of 1st degree intentional homicide and three counts of false imprisonment, was held today in Oneida County Branch II courtroom.

After defense and prosecution examined Terri Hook, Captain of Investigations with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, the Court decided that there was sufficient evidence to pursue the charges, and will proceed with further trial.

Next up is Martinson’s arraignment, where defense will make their plea. A not guilty plea is expected, in which case Martinson will appear by telephone or by video conference. Judge Michael Bloom noted that Martinson would have to appear in person for anything other than a not guilty or similar plea. The arraignment is scheduled for Monday, June 29 at 3:30 p.m..

Martinson is accused of killing her step father, Thomas Ayers, and mother, Jennifer Ayers at their home near Rhinelander March 7, 2015. She fled the state with her boyfriend, Ryan Sisco and both were apprehended the next day in Boone County, Indiana.

Check out the June 7 print edition of the Star Journal for a timeline and recap of the Martinson case up until today’s trial.
