“Gene” Jean Leroy Lund, age 79, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2015, of complications from kidney cancer. He was born in Rhinelander to Merritt and Mae (LeClaire) Lund.

Jean served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952 until 1956. After leaving the Navy, he lived in the Milwaukee area for almost 10 years and then returned to Rhinelander. He worked at Daniels Manufacturing for a few years, leaving there to be self-employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker, a vocation which he truly enjoyed.

He is survived by his children, John Lund (Marge) of Rhinelander, Debbie Joswick of Wausau, Steve Lund (Shelia) of Lyles, Tenn., Tammy Lund of Olympia, Wash., Matt Lund (Theresa) of Antioch, Tenn. and stepdaughter Kathy Trudeau of Madison; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Konecny of Milwaukee; many nieces and nephews; and his significant other, Janice Scheeler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an adopted son, Dan; his brothers, Wayne, Merritt and Harley; his sisters, Joyce and Etta Mae.

Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society will be handling the arrangements. As per his wishes, no services will be held. Special thanks to the Rhinelander and Iron Mountain, Mich., VA, Ministry Medical Group, Dr. Swank, Dr. Baker and their staff, and to the hospice staff and volunteers; also to our relatives, friends and neighbors who came to our aid in the time of our need, especially during this past cold and snowy winter.

Memorial contributions in honor of Jean may be given to the Ministry Hospice.
