Long time “Our Town” editor has died

Former Our Town (now the Star Journal) editor Tom Michele died last week. According to his obituary on Sonnenberg Family Funeral Home website. Michele worked at the Our Town for twelve years, beginning in 1979. He moved to Baraboo News Republic where he was a reporter-photograher, assistant editor and regional photographer, assisting at sister newspapers in Reedsburg, Portage, Mauston, Sauk
Prairie and Wisconsin Dells. His most recent work was at Fort McCoy
Public Affairs office as a photojournalist from February 2008 to
December 2011. He also photographed varsity sports game photos at Sparta
High School for the Sparta Herald and Monroe County Democrat from
February 2009 to December of 2014.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968 and was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1988, serving as a
combat engineer in Rhinelander three years, then public affairs
specialist 11 years at Fort McCoy and Madison, retiring in 2003 from
duty at the state Guard’s headquarters in Madison and at the rank of
staff sergeant.
