Gleason parish celebrates historic anniversary

The Little Log Church in Gleason is 75 years old. Members of Our Savior’s Lutheran church and friends will be celebrating the event with a short program and potluck dinner following services on Sunday, Dec. 28.

It was Christmas Day, 1939 that the new congregation held its first service. Founded two years earlier for families in the logging community of Bundy, services were held in the local Jeffries schoolhouse. Fifty-five members attended the first meeting and many were baptized, received instruction, were confirmed and church council elected during the early years.

Members cut trees from their land, using the logs to build the church. Once constructed, the little log cabin provided the area’s religious needs ever since.

Present members include children and grandchildren of the founders. The church is located at W526 Co. Hwy. D in Gleason.
