Fifth annual Christmas Railroad wraps up this weekend

The Rhinelander Railroad Association holiday event at Trig’s Riverwalk Center will pack up after one more show this weekend.

The Association has been putting on the free exhibit for the past four years. A group of about 20 members, they created nearly all the trains and tracks, along with detailed sets, putting up their own money and free time.

The organization has been around since 1994, and when they aren’t putting on holiday shows or taking their displays to train shows, they help restore the old train depot and maintain the museum.

“We’re always looking for new members,” said Tom Theilig, one of the Association members. “It’s a diversity of all different kinds of personalities that make up the club, that make it even more fun.”

Theilig said their Christmas Railroad wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Trig’s, whose space they were able to use without charge to bring a little Christmas cheer to the Riverwalk Center.
