Amazing wildlife photography
A former Rhinelander pastor and amateur photographer in town visiting friends happened upon an interesting sight last week. Gene Baade had his camera with him, as he always does and photographed several bald eagles feasting on a fawn carcass north of Rhinelander. The road kill had been pulled by a local resident into a field to protect the eagles from vehicle traffic.
Baade said over the course of an hour he observed eight eagles in the immediate area with one or two at a time on the ground feeding, sometimes defending their positions from rivals.
In the 1970s and 1980’s Baade served as pastor St. Mark Lutheran Church in Rhinelander, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bundy. He now resides in Renton, Washington.
