Mike Boyd has had an affinity for numbers most of his life. That interest took him to Michigan Tech and an engineering degree, and for the past sixteen years, the financial industry. Mike struck out on his own ten years ago and founded Boyd Financial Services, LLC.
“We offer Financial Planning, Investment Management, Employer Benefits and Insurances such as Life, Health, Disability and Long Term Care,” Boyd said. “We really enjoy working with Business owners to help provide the best benefits and value possible to their employees within a reasonable budget.  It also gives us great joy to help individuals and families prepare for and achieve financial goals such as retirement.”
Jennifer Cordy began working for Boyd the same month the business was started, and now is the firm’s Insurance and Health Benefit Advisor. “We provide health insurance for individuals, seniors, and employers,” Cordy pointed out. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting, so her skill set matches well with the financial and insurance industry.
As have many business owners, Boyd and his staff have seen changes in their industry through the years. Of those, one of the more complex is with health insurance.
“The financial and insurance industry has been changing a tremendous amount in the last few years,” Mike remarked. “The Affordable Care Act (‘Obamacare’) has affected most citizens in our area and we have had to spend a significant amount of time learning what is going on and keeping up with the changes. There have also been a large number of tax law changes in the last 10 years that has kept the Financial Planning side of our business busy.”
Dave Manniko is Boyd Financial Service’s Life Insurance Specialist and Investment Consultant. Dave graduated from Rhinelander High School, and has a business degree from UW-Stevens Point.  “I like talking to people, so this job is a good fit for me,” Dave said. “We do a lot of problem solving for people who need our help.” Manniko and Cordy agree they provide the type of help everyone will need at some point in their lives.
When asked what he and his staff can do to stand out from the crowd in a competitive industry, Boyd didn’t hesitate to answer.
“We like to distinguish ourselves from other companies by offering great local service at a reasonable price.  I believe we are especially well known for going to great lengths to give the best possible experience for our customers.”
Boyd is confident this approach will put his company in a good place into the future.
“I think our business will continue to grow. We offer advice and assistance in areas that most people will look for someone they can trust to work with,” Boyd said. “There have been many changes in our industry in the last 5 years and I am sure there are many more coming in the next 10 years.”
Boyd Financial services staff consists of Mike Boyd and four employees. The office is located at 1202 Lincoln St. in Rhinelander, and is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are available evenings and weekends by appointment. Phone number is 715-369-5577, or toll free 800-709-3898. Their website is under construction, but in the near future you can find them online at www.boydfs.net.
