As a Democratic write-in candidate for the position of Sheriff of Oneida County, my name will not be on the ballot. For me to wint the election, the name ‘Tom Wakely’ should be printed in. I should explain that I am pro-life and personally at odds with  particular portions of the official Democratic Party platform,In the future I’ll go into detail as to why I am no longer a republican.
I think there is a pertinent connection between the chaos in Ferguson and the law enforcement right here in Oneida County and the city of Rhinelander. To criticize the sheriff’s office is no the intent of this letter, In fact, I personally highly admire our present sheriff. Even so, I feel it is my duty to point out important political differences before the November election.
In 1976, the first time I ran for sheriff, I pointed out the qualities of a good cop and how such police officers deserve honor and respect. In my 2014 campaign, I will mention the harm that bad cops do to police officers of integrity and how bad cops often commit crimes with impunity. Isn’t it evident that judges most often take the word of a bad copy over an ordinary person?
This kind of bias eventually contributes to the ‘hatred of police’ and the court system also.
Tom Wakely, Rhinelander
