HYMC to host annual Community Health and Wellness Fair
Howard Young Medical Center (HYMC) and the Ministry Medical Group (MMG) clinic in Woodruff will host the third annual Community Health and Wellness Fair Thursday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the hospital at 240 Maple Street. Health fair visitors are asked to park and enter on the north side of the building at the MMG clinic entrance.
The health fair will feature free health screenings provided by associates from HYMC and the MMG Woodruff clinic. Free clinical screenings will include non-fasting cholesterol testing, glucose screening, blood pressure checks, and body mass index (BMI) and hearing screenings. Appointments are not necessary and the free screenings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Cholesterol-testing patients must be 18 years of age and older.
Howard Young Medical Center, Ministry Medical Group, Marshfield Clinic and community partners will be available with health and wellness information.
New this year is a teddy bear clinic. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite teddy bear or other stuffed animal to the health fair and have it examined by a Ministry Medical Group Woodruff provider. The teddy bear clinic is an opportunity for children to explore healthcare experiences and to learn about diabetes and healthy lifestyles.
The Auxiliary Howard Young Medical Center Gift Shop will be open during the health fair.
Volunteers play a prominent role at HYMC. Staff from the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) will be on hand, as will specially trained health care volunteers from HYMC’s pet therapy program. Staff from Dr. Kate Hospice Home Care and Ministry Home Health will also be available.
