Fatal automobile accident in Vilas County

A three-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. Hwy. 51 at Old 51 North Road in the Town of Arbor Vitae at 10:09 a.m. Thursday, July 24. A vehicle driven by a 64-year-old female from Minocqua was struck by a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old female from Woodruff. Both vehicles were northbound on Hwy. 51.

The vehicle driven by the 64-year-old female ended up in the southbound lane, striking a southbound tour bus from Beloit. The 64-year-old driver from Minocqua was fatally injured. Several passengers on the tourist bus ranging in age from 40 to 85 years old sustained non-life threatening injuries. All 13 occupants of the tour bus and the driver from the second vehicle were transported to Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. The driver of the tour bus was examined at the scene by EMS but denied transport.
