Obituary: Richard Timmons

Richard “Dick” Whaley Timmons, 84, of Rhinelander died Sunday, July 20, at Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Green Bay. He was born June 9, 1930, in South Orange, N.J. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sons Ben of Colchester, Conn., Andy (Robin) of Ellington, Conn., Mark of Torrington, Conn., and Bob (Vivian) of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Taylor, Donald and David; and a sister, Audrey. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Timmons served as a classified documents specialist in the Army Quartermaster’s Office at Seventh U.S. Army Headquarters near Stuttgart, Germany. He was a former editor of the Daily News in Rhinelander. He hosted Midday Classics on WXPR radio and was involved with several community organizations. A memorial service has
been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at the First
Congregational United Church of Christ, 105 N. First St., Eagle River. The family asks that memorials be given in Mr. Timmons’ name to the WXPR Public Radio Endowment, 28 N. Stevens St., Rhinelander, WI 54501. (Carlson Funeral Home)
