The YMCA of the Northwoods is organizing Rhinelander’s second annual Couch Potato Race, which will take place in downtown Rhinelander during the Downtown Rhinelander Inc. PotatoFest, Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014.

“We’re looking forward to being part of Downtown Rhinelander’s PotatoFest, and hope the community will come out to support this event,” said Laurie Schlitt, Interim CEO of the YMCA of the Northwoods. “Anyone from families to friends to businesses can field a team. It’s all in good fun.”

Teams of five bring their own couch, outfitted with at least 3 wheels and no motorized assistance. Four team members push the couch and one member goes along for the ride. The rider must complete three challenges in the race, including a bean bag toss, ladder golf, and bat circle. Couches must be decorated, and themes are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest team and the best themed unit. Participants must be 16 and up, and riders must wear a helmet.

Couches face race inspection at 9:30 a.m., and the furniture starts flying at 10 a.m. Contact Marilyn Duschl or Laurie Schlitt for full race details at [email protected] or [email protected]
