Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce Donates to Oneida County Humane Society

The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce donated $160 to the Oneida County Humane Society as part of the funds raised during the inaugural Boom Lake Log Jam held in June. The money comes from donations given during the Gene Shepard Hodag Show performed by Jerry Shidell.

“Mr. Shidell, with help from his assistant ‘Junior,’ put on a great show that was really enjoyed by many at the Log Jam this year,” said Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Dana DeMet. “The Hodag means so much to the people of Rhinelander so it’s fun that we can link that to supporting and finding homes for the many animals that the Humane Society cares for throughout the year.”

Attendees to the Gene Shepard Hodag Show donated one dollar to gain access to a darkened tent which housed a “live” Hodag. 100 percent of the donations gathered went to the Humane Society-other costs of the show were covered by the Chamber of Commerce as part of its sponsorship of the Log Jam.

The Oneida County Humane Society takes in around 500 abandoned, lost or mistreated animals throughout the year, and much of its operating costs are covered by donations like this one.

Information for making donations can be found on the Humane Society’s website at www.ochspets.org/page/donate.
