Business Close-up: Enjoying the links at Pinewood Country Club
Whether you are a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior, Pinewood Country Club in Harshaw is a great place to hone your golf game or enjoy a leisurely match with friends and family. Owned and operated by Chip and Jayne Bromann, this 18-hole course, set on 325 acres, is not only fun to play but jaw-dropping beautiful as well.
Carved from a potato field and acres of forest more than 50 years ago by Chip’s grandfather, Al Bromann Sr., the Pinewood course boasts some of the most unique golfing landscape in the area. Giant pines and hardwoods dot the course as well as ponds that draw lots of wildlife. Players can walk or ride over bridges that span gurgling creeks, and there are cool and refreshing woods that link one hole to the next.
Besides the natural splendor and challenge of this course, golfers will find lots of other amenities at Pinewood as well. The pro shop is stocked with attractive and practical golf attire as well as necessities such as tees, balls and golfing gloves. There are shoes, outerwear, hats, shirts and lots more, all geared toward practicality as well as style for both men and women.
After a round, golfers are invited to enjoy the view from an outdoor deck while sipping on a refreshing beverage. In addition to a comfortable and spacious bar upstairs, there is also a more intimate one off the pro shop. Also the Bromanns have room to host private gatherings such as weddings, anniversary parties or rehearsal dinners, complete with a customized menu. Seating capacity is at 100 people.
While all the amenities here are fantastic, the Bromanns have also put lots of time and thought into making the course not only challenging for more seasoned players, but friendly for family groups as well. Take, for instance, Big Cup Sunday.
Every Sunday, on the first nine holes, an 8-inch cup is added to each green, making putting easier for those just learning or exploring the game.
“It also gives people more confidence when they go to putt the ball,” said Chip. “It makes the game friendlier for families and adds another fun dimension to the sport.”
Pinewood CC is also host to plenty of leagues throughout the week and different types of tournaments on weekends. Everyone is invited to participate in any of these leagues or tournaments by simply making a reservation.
Another popular program implemented at Pinewood is the Golf 101 course. This is taught by Brian Baldwin, a retired PGA golf pro. Participants get a golf lesson and then put their newfound skill to use by playing a round.
Youngsters from ages 6 through 17 will also enjoy the junior golf program in addition to the free play kids get when they are accompanied by an adult each Wednesday night.
While this course is a wonderful one to walk, there are also plenty of carts available for rent as well as club rentals for those visiting or just starting out.
“We want people to enjoy our course and have fun while they golf,” said Chip. “That’s what the game is all about.”
