Representative Swearingen receives ?Friend of Education? award
Rep. Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander), named the 2014 “Friend of Education” by the Fair Aid Coalition, was presented with his award Friday, May 30 at Lakeland Union High School. His award is in recognition of his leadership and determination to ensure that all Wisconsin public school students have access to a quality educational opportunity.
The Fair Aid Coalition is an organization of school districts whose mission is to enhance state funding for high property value school districts.
“Representative Swearingen is seeking solutions to the challenges confronting many of the districts in our area due to the fact that we receive little or no state support,” said Todd Kleinhans, administrator of Lakeland Union High School and vice-chair of the Fair Aid Coalition Executive Board. “His leadership as chair of a task force looking at how to improve Wisconsin’s rural public schools is bringing much needed attention to the needs of Northwoods school districts.”
The final report of the Speaker’s Rural Schools Task Force, released in early May, includes important policy recommendations related to technology, enhanced transportation aid, and school finance reform, including a focus on the shortcomings of the equalization aid formula.
“In just two years, Rep. Swearingen has emerged as a recognized leader for public school students and taxpayers,” Kleinhans said. “Under his leadership, finding long-term solutions to the unique challenges facing small, rural school districts has become a priority for state lawmakers.”
Representative Swearingen has represented the 34th Assembly District since 2012.
