Teachers and tutors invited to literacy training
The Literacy Task Force of Northern Wisconsin will be sponsoring its annual literacy training workshop July 22 to 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nicolet College Northwoods Center (Room 207) in Rhinelander.
This year, Marsha Geller, M.Ed, will teach the SLANT (Structured Language Training) System, a research-based, multisensory professional development program. It is designed to improve teachers’ or tutors’ skills in teaching reading, spelling and writing to individuals of any age who have been unsuccessful using traditional approaches, or who are considered “at risk.”
The SLANT System is effective as an intervention program for both Tiers 2 and 3 in an RTI model and can also be used as a supplementary reading program in general education classrooms where it provides balance to literature-based reading approaches. This training will enhance the skills of those teachers or tutors with experience and provide basic training for those who are new or are looking for a refresher.
Tuition for the workshop is $175 (or $99.49 for participants over age 62) and $250.00 for materials. Two graduate credits through Aurora University will be available for an additional $200.
