Nicolet College will continue activities for April as National Poetry Month with an open mic poetry reading at 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Hext Theatre, 25 S. Brown St., in downtown Rhinelander.

The event is free and open to everyone. Participants are invited to read their favorite poem or one that they have written themselves.

Since April 1, Nicolet has been posting poems written by community members and Nicolet students and staff on a blog.

The blog may be found online at nicoletpoetry.blogspot.com.

Aspiring poets interested in submitting works to the blog can email them to Nicolet English and Spanish instructor Ocie Kilgus at okilgus@nicoletcollege.edu.

Those submitting poems are asked to include their names, the titles of the poems and comment about themselves. Poems may also be submitted anonymously, if the writer desires.

At the end of the month, instructors in the college’s University Transfer Liberal Arts program will select the best poem from a community member and a student.

The community member with the best poem will win free tickets to plays by the Nicolet Players during the 2014-15 season.

The student with the best poem will win a $100 cash prize and a $50 gift certificate from Book World, and will be honored at the college’s Student Awards Ceremony May 6.
