Ducks Unlimited announces nest box giveaway
The Northwoods Chapter of Ducks Unlimited announces its annual wood duck nest box Give-Away April 26 at 9 a.m. at the Shopko Parking lot.
The chapter has given away more than 6,000 boxes during the last 10 years. Wisconsin Public Service has been DU’s partner the last several years and has helped distribute the boxes throughout northern Wisconsin.
This year DU is distributing only in Rhinelander and there is a limited number. DU asks for a donation of $15 per box or 2 for $25. The donor also gets a greenwing membership per box for any youth under the age of 12, with an address, date of birth and actual name.
DU also asks that the boxes are maintained and checked annually which is a great learning experience to find out who has been living in the box. Wood ducks usually arrive around mid-April but search for their nest to mid-May or when the lakes open up which will be later this year than normal. Members of the Northwoods committee will be available to give people tips on installation and location as well as information about the life cycle of the Wood Duck.

Ducks Unlimited’s vision is to provide wetlands to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever. DU conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.
