If you’re eyeing up the grill for some outdoor meals, check out the delicious and plentiful selection of meats and other groceries at Bessey’s Meat Market in Rhinelander. Glenn Bessey and his dad, Roy, operate this store which is located on Oneida Street in Rhinelander.

This quaint and welcoming neighborhood market has some of the most delicious selections of meats available. Beef, pork, chicken, fish and seafood selections are numerous and Roy and Glenn are more than happy to custom cut any meat upon request. In addition, Glenn has started providing grass fed beef and buffalo. There is always grass fed beef hamburger at the meat counter, but frozen steaks and roasts are also available.

Glenn’s homemade beef jerky along with his beef sticks have garnered quite a following in the six years since Bessey’s has been open. There are more than six flavors to choose from including beef and cheddar, honey ham, teriyaki and BBQ to name a few. Glenn also has homemade summer sausage in the case and his homemade hot dogs are favorites. Smoked blue fin herring and Alaska salmon are also offered.

“I’ve got two smokers running now,” said Glenn. “Our smoked meats are really popular.”

Another popular option offered at Bessey’s are the meat packages. Customers can order whole and half beef and hogs custom cut or choose variety packages that include beef, pork, chicken and other goodies like wieners, sausage and brats.

And Glenn’s homemade brats are another reason customers come back time and time again. He has more than 45 unique and delectable varieties available including onion/garlic, jalapeño cheddar, sweet mango and habanero, dill pickle and of course the famous Hodag brat is always popular.

In addition to all the meat at Bessey’s shoppers will also find a wide selection of delicious and unusual grocery items. There are lots of bulk food snacks individually packaged in addition to many different spices and seasonings. Powdered dips and sauces are also plentiful and are popular for great tasting snacks.

Fresh bakery baked on the premises is also available. A variety of breads, donuts holes, bismarks and hamburger and hot dog buns are always on hand.
Other groceries include a line of homemade noodles that are cholesterol free, lots of pickled vegetables (even eggs) and unusual and tasty mixes for soups.

One of the great experiences about visiting Bessey’s is the friendly and welcoming customer service. The Bessey’s and their employees greet their visitors with a smile and a friendly word and are always willing to help whether that’s custom cutting meat or suggesting a tasty recipe with a particular purchase.

Bessey’s is located at 1102 S. Oneida Ave,. in Rhinelander. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. They have a Facebbok page as well as a website at besseysmeats.com. The email is besseys@frontiernet.net and he phone number is 715-362-5600.
