Big Brothers Big Sisters to hold Rhinelander event
A question and answer discussion with Mary Kinnunen from the organization
Q: When and where will it take place?
A: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday April 4 at Hodag Lanes.
Q: Do I need to be a good bowler?
A: No. In fact, bowling skills do not matter. What does matter is having a good time! Bowl for Kids’ Sake will be an evening of food, games, prizes, a costume contest and Rhinelander’s own musician/songwriter Scott Kirby a.k.a. DJ Skirby spinning great tunes. The theme is A Bowl Through TV Land so get your best TV character outfit on and come join the party that includes two games of bowling! (Costumes are admired but not required.)
Q: How does my bowling team raise money?
A: Two ways: Online at www.bbbsnw.org — click on the Bowl for Kids’ Sake tab and register your team. The Team Captain and team members can share their donation pages with their email lists and Facebook friends. The Team Captain can also mail in the registration and those forms are downloadable online or at city hall, the library and chamber of commerce. Then team members bring their donations to the event.
Q: How much do I have to raise?
A: The goal for each bowler is to raise at least $100 and bowlers under 18 to raise at least $50. When Team Captains register the team, they pay $25 to reserve a lane, which is then applied toward their $100 goal.
Q: What is the money used for?
A: The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change lives for the better, forever. All money raised at Bowl for Kids’ Sake will directly support that mission by funding matches between Northwoods ‘Bigs’ and ‘Littles’.
Q: What are the prizes?
A: Prizes range from two 4-day passes to Country Fest or Rock Fest in the Chippewa Valley, to Rhinelander restaurant, grocery, automotive and entertainment gift cards, to a beautiful print of a jumping musky.
Q: Who is this event for?
A: This event is for anyone and all ages to come out and support Big Brothers Big Sisters. We have business teams, friends and family, and youth teams that participate.
