Viewpoint: Author endorses Carol Pederson for District 5

Editor:
I’m writing to urge voters in Oneida County’s District 5 to return Supervisor Carol Pederson to Oneida County Board.

I’ve been attending county board meetings in the past several years in the capacity of a citizen concerned about improving the delivery of local government services, and about preserving the Northwoods’ natural assets of lakes, rivers and forests.

For four years, Carol Pederson has represented the district I live in, and in that time I have been encouraged to observe how she has demonstrated an ability to educate herself about each issue coming before the board and to cast her vote from a thoughtful, informed position.

I especially appreciate that Ms. Pederson co-sponsored a resolution last year to change board meeting times to evenings, as a way to encourage younger, working people to not only attend more meetings but to run for board supervisor positions themselves. The resolution was defeated, but I am confident that through Ms. Pederson’s leadership, it will be revived and eventually will happen.

Also important to me is the way Ms. Pederson makes herself available to her constituents. She listens carefully to their concerns, responds in a timely manner and does her homework on each issue.

I feel our district is lucky to have Ms. Pederson as our representative on the Board and I hope that she can make use of all her hard-earned knowledge about the issues that face us by getting re-elected.
