Volunteers wanted for new food pantry
Grace Foursquare Church will host an introduction to Ruby’s Pantry Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Potatoes, bread and ice cream will be given away at no charge until gone. Volunteers are wanted to help at the pantry, and those interested in volunteering are asked to call Lynne Friese at (715) 282-6517. The deadline for volunteer sign-up is 1 p.m. Feb. 4.
Ruby’s Pantry will distribute food at the church, which is located at 4360 Hwy. 17, beginning Feb. 18. Regular distributions will be held the third Tuesday of each month. Registration for recipients will begin at 4 p.m. and distribution will begin at 5 p.m. Each patron is asked to bring two laundry baskets (to carry the food) and contribute a $20 donation. These donations help cover transportation and operating expenses.
Ruby’s Pantry began in 2003 and is now holding 40 food distributions per month, serving as many as 10,000 families and handling more than 800,000 pounds of food. All food is donated to the program by various corporations within the state and around the country. Anyone may patronize Ruby’s, as this food pantry is not based on income.
