James Williams Middle School eighth grader Grace Payfer was recently honored by the Wisconsin Outdoor News magazine.

Grace’s prose entitled “Springtime’s Gift” was selected as the second place winner in the magazine’s annual Youth Writing Contest sponsored by Cabela’s.

The contest received entries from all over the state of Wisconsin including entries selected from the eighth grade science and language arts classes at James Williams Middle School. The writing contest asked students to put their outdoor experiences on paper to share with readers of the Wisconsin Outdoor News magazine in either prose or poetry form.

Wisconsin Outdoor News will now enter Grace’s prose in the 2014 Norm Strung Youth Writing Competition, which is sponsored by the Outdoor Writers of America Association, Safari Club International, the Izaak Walton League of America and Delta Waterfowl. Grace will have a chance to win additional cash prizes.

Grace is the daughter of Jeremy and Angela Payfer of Rhinelander and her sponsoring teachers are Karie Blemke and Jeff Skubal.
