Poetry contest winners announced
The staff of Carlson Funeral Home announced the winners of the annual holiday poetry contest for works submitted by area students.
Poems written by three students from Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School were chosen to be part of the Christmas Memories Holiday Memorial Program to be held at Carlson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. The selected entries were “Christmas Above” written by Ashley Adams, “The Empty Chair” by Aaron Fernandes, and “The True Meaning of Christmas” by Ellen Padgett. The young authors will read their poems during the Christmas Memories Service.
The Christmas Memories Memorial is a gathering open to all members of the community to offer support, sharing and inspiration as people encounter their first holiday season following the death of a friend or family member.
As part of this program, students from area schools are invited to create an original poem dealing with the subjects of memories, loss of a loved one, or the holidays in general. Originality and creativity are the key criteria for the winning submissions.
