Viewpoint: Writer enjoyed recent column about Senior Nutrition Program
Editor:
Thank you to the Star Journal for the great article Mary Ann Doyle wrote in her food column regarding federal Sequestration funding cuts to the Senior Nutrition Program.
Mary Ann added such a great entertaining style of writing to this serious subject. Senior meals and home delivered meals is a very cost effective way to help our older citizens remain independent living in their own homes versus the much higher cost alternative of publicly funded facilities.
We encourage your readers to contact their U.S. Congressman and Senators (see the section often in this paper about how to contact your legislators) and tell them to “Stop Sequestration of Older Americans Act programs like Senior Nutrition.”
We have also heard from some generous folks asking how to donate to the program. Donations of any amount will be spent 100 percent on the Oneida County Senior Nutrition program and can be sent to Senior Meals, Department on Aging, 100 W Keenan St, Rhinelander, WI 54501. Gifts are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
Thanks again for a great article.
