Rhinelander Police Department announces the ?Shop with a Cop Program?
On Dec. 14, members of the Rhinelander Police Department will be partnering with members of the Rhinelander Fire Department in taking a group of area third-grade students shopping for Christmas presents. The Rhinelander Police Department is working with Rhinelander area schools to select a group of hard working, less fortunate third-grade students to participate in the program.
The selected children will arrive at the Rhinelander Police Department/Rhinelander Fire Department at 9 a.m. Dec. 14. The children will be paired up with a police officer and/or firefighter. The officers, firefighters and children will board a bus donated by Bowen Bus Service and be transported to an area restaurant where they will eat breakfast together. Burger King has donated breakfast for all students, police officers and firefighters participating in the program.
After breakfast the students will be transported to the Rhinelander Wal-Mart where the students will have a set amount of money to spend on Christmas presents for themselves and family members. The students will then ride the bus back to the Rhinelander Police Department where officers and firefighters, along with help from their spouses, will assist the children with wrapping the presents they purchased for their family members.
The success of the Shop with a Cop program will rely heavily on donations from the community. If you would like to make a contribution to the Shop with a Cop program, donations may be mailed to the Rhinelander Police Department C/O: Officer Chad Brown at 201 North Brown St., Rhinelander, WI 54501. Make checks payable to the Rhinelander Professional Police Association and not the city of Rhinelander. All donations need to be received by Dec. 2. Any donations received after Dec. 2 will be used for the 2014 Shop with a Cop program.
For more information, call officer Chad Brown at the Rhinelander Police Department at 715-365-5300.
