The Rhinelander High School/Northwoods Community Secondary School Drama Department will persent, Gilbert and Sullivan’s, The Pirates of Penzance, for the 2013 fall musical.

“The first production of this show was in 1879, so a lot of people have seen and have performed this play,” Director Kristin Larsen said. “We’re known for doing more modern musicals, but this time we decided to give the students and our audience a chance to experience a classic production.”

This comic opera combines singing, dancing and plenty of plot turns, as a young pirate falls in love, but thanks to a ‘clause in his contract,’ must continue his servitude.

The Pirates of Penzance features Bryce White as Frederic, Kayla Wenos as Mabel, Ian Bishop as the Pirate King, Rainne Britton as Ruth, Zach Harder as the Major General, Jordan Keso as Samuel, Marshell Kieffer as the Sergeant, and Eileen Emond, Jane Kubisiak and Faith Bartelt as the Sisters.

The rest of the ensemble includes Phoenix Bise, Eric Henrichs, Cody Zimmermann, Brittany Blakeslee, Erin Bloom, Heidi Gray, Katie Harder, Elizabeth Kearney, Sarah Konicek, Abby Lesch, Samantha Rossier, Bethany Stelbrink, Anthony Stewart and Angie Timm.

Behind the scenes, the assistant director is Roddy MacMillan, Desiree Wattelet is the vocal sirector, and Lora-Jean Jones is the xhoreographer. Connie Piasecki will be conducting the pit band, with Mary Peterson on piano. The set designer is Tony Rio.

Performance dates for The Pirates of Penzance will be Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m., with a matinee Sunday, Nov. 24th at 1 p.m., at the Rhinelander High School Auditorium.
