Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc. would like to announce the success of their campaign to connect the Manitowish Waters trails to the 23 mile paved Heart of Vilas County Bike and Hike Trail System.

The 8.3 mile trail will continue from the present trail across from North Lakeland Elementary School to Camp Manitowish in Boulder Junction. Travelers of this trail will experience one of the most scenic and enjoyable trails in northern Wisconsin.

This trail has been designed to travel through a beautiful highland tamarack forest, rolling hills, 560 feet of wetland more than 10 feet wide boardwalks, a 144 feet, 10 feet wide arched bridge over Rice Creek, proceeding along the Manitowish River to the Manitowish River bridge.

The trail will continue to be family friendly with guard rails on all board walks and bridges, 12 foot wide gravel base and eight foot wide paved blacktop, all without crossing Hwy K.

When this connection is completed next spring all four towns, businesses and the whole area will benefit from the increased trail use.

Many have contributed to the success of this campaign.

Fund raising will continue. There are still connecting trails to be built, signage, stripping, parking areas and continuing trail maintenance to be paid for. To date, construction of all of these trails have been built with private donations.

The Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc. is a 501c (3) non-profit that has been established for the sole purpose of raising funds for the development and maintenance of the Manitowish Waters bike trail system. All donations are tax deductible and can be sent to: First Merit Bank, Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc., P.O. Box 326, Manitowish Waters, WI 54545.
