9-29-13 United Way kicks off annual campaign
Governor Scott Walker recently designated the months of September and October, as United Way Months in Wisconsin, in recognition of the start of United Way annual campaigns throughout the state.
The proclamation highlights United Way’s work to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a quality life: health, income and education. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and people have good health. It takes everyone in the community – individuals, businesses and organizations – to supply the passion, expertise and resources to create lasting change.
In 2012, Wisconsin’s United Ways, serving as the primary source of private funds, collectively raised over 116 million dollars to support human services. United Way urges Wisconsinites to give, advocate and volunteer in order to be a part of the change and help build a brighter future.
Last year the Northwoods United Way raised $207,000 and provided funds to 29 agencies. This year the Northwoods United Way has set a campaign goal of $210,000. United Way will kick off the 2013 campaign on Tuesday, October 1st at their annual Ice Cream Social/Agency Fair at the YMCA of the Northwoods. The public is welcome to join in the fun! You can visit the united way website at www.northwoodsunitedway.org for an event flyer.
