Comedian-musician Heywood Banks to perform at Nicolet College Theatre Sept. 27
His brand of humor is impossible to describe. It’s been called twisted, irreverent, trenchant, insightful, silly, and above all, original. It’s songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician Heywood Banks, returning to the Nicolet College Theatre to give a performance Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
“Heywood Banks has played here twice before and both times to a packed house,” Theatre Director Jim Nuttall said. “He’s one of those versatile entertainers who has something for all ages and types – students, ‘Boomers, professionals, kids, you name it. He’s billed as a comedian, but he’s also a very talented musician whose musical style embraces folk to country, rock, pop, jazz, and beyond. We’re thrilled to have him back.”
Who, exactly, is Heywood Banks? Stuart Mitchell, his creator, tells us that Heywood was born on a mountaintop in Tennessee and lived for many years in a “log” trailer. “Heywood’s biological parents, Hank and Heyena Banks were killed in a freak revolving restaurant accident back in the sixties – someone had hit the Puree Button by mistake…grisly!” Mitchell continues, tongue firmly planted in cheek, “Eventually raised by mathematical parents, Heywood was working in a Kroger bagging groceries when he was hit in the head with a can of lunchmeat, giving him spamnesia. This caused him problems for years as he became afraid of the dark, but couldn’t sleep with the light on.”
A frequent guest on the nationally-syndicated Bob and Tom radio show, Heywood Banks’ TV appearances include A&E’s Evening at the Improv, MTV’s 1/2 Hour Comedy Hour, CNN’s Hollywood Minute, Caroline’s Comedy Hour, Entertainment Tonight, Showtime Comedy Club Network, Dr. Demento Show, and the 12th Annual HBO Young Comedians Special with Paul Rodriguez.
He’s also been featured in the Rolling Stone and People magazines. And he won first place in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search Contest.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for youth age 15 and under.
