Rhinelander and Wabeno libraries co-host open mic poetry event
An open mic poetry event will be held at the Rhinelander District Library, 106 N. Stevens St. Saturday, Sept. 21, at noon in the meeting room.
“We hope to hold several of these events, with some held in Rhinelander and some in Wabeno, co-sponsored by both libraries,” Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes, host and emcee for the event, said. The event is a collaboration across county lines for public library programming.
As one of the poets signing in, Saffioti-Hughes will read an excerpt from her work, including The Lost Italian and the Sound of Words, in memory of her daughter, Autumn Grace. She is director of the Wabeno Public Library, a published author and retired professor emerita from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, where she taught for more than 30 years in the English department. She has published more than 150 poems in three countries and three languages.
Poets should expect to sign in and read for five minutes each, in order of signing. The mic will be open from noon to 2 p.m. in the meeting room of the Rhinelander library, rotating through the list as time allows.
The event is free, and the public is welcome to attend. Future dates will be announced at the gathering.
