Our Turn: Identity

Who am I? Indeed, a strange question that is answerable, but quite difficult to answer. “I am Shawn Crofoot, I’m a sophomore at NCSS, I enjoy gaming and my pets” would be an example of me.

Starting each year at NCSS, students do a project as a class with their advisor. Once that is finished, they go off to do their individual projects. Each of the advisories is focusing on personal, community and NCSS’ identity for each person. Ms. Ellerson’s advisory has our main question set to be quite literally “Who Am I?” which is a strange main question. Nevertheless, we have begun this project. Ms. Ellerson has allowed us the ability to complete an identity chart and a biopoem in order to earn extra scope and sequence for this project. Biopoems are self-explanatory in the fact that they are biographies in the form of poems. My assumption for why this topic was chosen is that it helps us know ourselves and each other better.

There is a large amount of new students of all grades in the school this year, so this project is quite helpful. There is a saying from a Greek philosopher named Plato, “Know thyself.” This is a very straightforward quote granting those who follow its knowledge on a deeper level. Identities are something that everyone has, but not everyone fully understands. Some people think an identity is just saying “I am this person and I was born on this date,” but it isn’t, it’s truly far from it. A person’s identity is not just a name and birthdate, it’s the person’s way of life, everything they have done or will do, everything they like or dislike, the school you go to, and the community you live in is ALL part of your identity.

My biopoem:

Shawn
Intelligent, helpful, capable, strategic
Son of Christina and Jesse Crofoot, Brother of Anthony and Jasmine Crofoot
Who loves gaming and his pets
Who hates haters, subconsciously helps others back to their feet, and fears mistakes
Who got every single one of his high school required book scope and sequence in the first term of his freshman year
Who wants to see his family succeed and live on
Born in San Antonio, Texas and living in Rhinelander, Wisconsin
Crofoot
