Play pickleball at the YMCA

Fall is in the air and the chance to play pickleball will be available at the YMCA twice a week.

Pickleball is the fastest growing participation sport among people ages 55 and older in the U.S. Pickleball is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic ball and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

The YMCA in Rhinelander will have open play time on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning Sept. 24. Players will rotate around so they can play a variety of participants during the two-hour session.

Paddles are available for use so that players can try the sport, but each player will need to purchase his or her own equipment if playing regularly.

Pickleball is free to Y members and the general public is charged $5 per session. Those with questions may call Marilyn Duschl at (715) 362-9622, ext. 118.
